Administrative Secretaries to Arbitral Tribunals
A Note from a Practitioner's Perspective

In international commercial arbitration, the assistance of the arbitral tribunal by an administrative secretary is nowadays commonly accepted by all users. In fact, even less complex cases cannot do without such assistance. The article first deals with the requirements for the appointment in the course of the arbitral proceedings the compliance with which is necessary for a proper conduct of the proceedings. It then discusses the secretary's numerous and manifold tasks from a practical point of view. These tasks can be of organisational, financial and legal nature. Finally, the author concludes with her personal view on the significance of serving as administrative secretary in the career of a young arbitration practitioner.
