The first panel will address the organization of arbitral proceedings, featuring one of the very first presentations of the 2016 revision of the UNCITRAL Notes on Organizing Arbitral Proceedings. The notes are a useful tool for arbitral tribunals and parties as they deal with typical matters that arise at different stages of the proceedings. We will discuss these matters further, adopting a practical approach to issues such as: party autonomy vs. discretion of the arbitral tribunal, usage of multiple languages, dealing with in-house costs of the parties and taking of oral evidence. A groundbreaking new online tool for assisting users of arbitration will also be introduced.

In the second panel we will host practitioners from countries of Central and Southeastern Europe, who will present arbitration environments in their jurisdictions. They will focus on important topics such as the legislative frameworks, their specific features, their attitude of national courts towards arbitration and the practice in enforcement and setting aside proceedings.

Arbitration involving States is currently undergoing historical reforms. The afternoon panels will  be dedicated to the current developments in the transparency in investor-State arbitration and the future of investor-State arbitration as a whole. We will consider whether and how the current regional reform initiatives on investor-State dispute settlement mechanism could be handled at a multilateral level.
